At the Rummu quarry
Only a half-an-hour drive from Tallinn, we find the wonderful Rummu quarry that has a dark past and clear waters. Amazing place to explore with fabikes.
The hike begins along the roads bordering the Rummu quarry and moves smoothly over to the hiking and cycling trails of the State Forest Management Centre. The narrow and curving hiking trails offer some technical thrill, we might be able take a look at the beautiful quarry and the surrounding prison and mining complex if there is some time left. When moving forward, we go slightly back and hike in the woods until we reach the fence surrounding the area of Rummu prison, then we walk along the lake to the top of the waste-heap hill to take a higher look on the unique panoramic view that is more likely a reflection of something seen in science fiction films. This is a good spot where we can take some time to have a small picnic, if desired. When moving forward, we walk alongside the walls of the prison until we reach the starting point of the hike.
Length of the hike
About 7 km that might take about 1.5–2 hours.
Level of difficulty
Easy, but there are some slight technical sections, the ground is fairly gentle.
